      FAQ

Q: Is this an official GNOME Shell group?

A: No, this is a group setup by a third party user(me, though I do contribute to GNOME) and not endorsed by GNOME.

    Q: Is GNOME Shell stable?

A: Yes, GNOME Shell is now classed as a stable release.

Q: What version is GNOME Shell currently at?

    A: 3.4

Q: What does GNOME Shell use to do it's themes?

A: GNOME Shell uses CSS3 for the actual theme design and javascript for the layout.

Q: GNOME Shell, GNOME 3, what's the difference?

A: GNOME Shell is the desktop shell and GNOME 3 is the underline technology, libraries and applications of the GNOME Desktop Environment.

Q: Will Metacity window themes from GNOME2 work with GNOME 3?

A: Yes but there is no UI to change them as yet. you can use the gconf-editor to change them and put the themes in ~/.themes. See this blog [link]

Q: How do I check what version of GNOME Shell I'm running?

A: Go into System Settings>System Info from the status menu.

Q: What does GNOME Shell require to run?

A: GNOME Shell requires fully 3D accelerated drivers to run. However, there is a fallback to GNOME3 without GNOME Shell, running Metacity and the Panel.

Q: Got any tips on making GNOME Shell themes?

A: I will post some tips but I did post a tip about the use of border-radius for 2.31.x in my personal journal [link]

Q: What will GNOME3 do in regard to GTK3 themes?

A: GTK3 will support a CSS type engine for themes
